We Challenge you to a Happiness Hour
Making time for positive, valued experiences can help you cope with the build up of everyday stresses and prevent you reaching a point of emotional snapping.
Gosh, that sounds terribly dramatic doesn’t it?? But then it can be really hard to carve into a busy day some “free” time and the effects that a build up of stress can have on you, your wellbeing and your body can be dramatic.
And we hear this a lot don’t we? We hear that drum being beaten a lot about taking time out for yourself and how important it is, and spending some time talking to friends or getting on with one of your hobbies sounds easy… but how many of us haven’t spoken to that friend for weeks now or left the jigsaw unfinished, or un-started?
Like the important things in your working life, if you don’t make time for these things to happen, you won’t do them.
So here is a challenge for you. Challenge yourself to take a Happiness Hour today. It may not even be an hour. It may be a quick 20 minutes. But however long you can, schedule it in and STICK to it. As we know, if you don’t look after you, you won’t be able to be at your best.
Here at Human Everything, we practice what we preach and for some time now we have been making a conscious effort to set Monday evenings aside where there’s (gasp!) NO TV! Yep - no Netflix, no catch-up telly, just us and some good reading material.
And we love it!
I’ve just finished The Editor by Steven Rowley. I’ve thrown caution to the wind and am just reading anything that comes my way. Otherwise I get stuck in a quagmire of not knowing what to read; what should I read, should I catch up on the books I feel I ought to have read by now and I end up reading nothing…. we’ve all been there.
Colin is currently on Dune by Frank Herbert. He saw the film a long time ago (he tried to make me watch it a few weeks back but its a bit weird), but he’s enjoying the book and would recommend it to any science fiction hounds.
So there you have it. Pick your time, pick your place, pick your happiness option of choice - and just blinking well do it!
